NSW nurses union conference passed a motions in support of the beyond zero emission plan [July 2007]

"This [NSWNA] Annual Conference calls on the Federal Government to massively increase renewable energy infrastructure. The NSWNA proposes implementation of the Zero Carbon Australian 2020 Zero Carbon Energy Plan."

Graduate Student Association (GSA), University of Melbourne on carbon price and BZE Passed November 2010.
That GSA adopt the following as policy for the GSA on climate change

1. Human-induced climate change
The GSA Council recognises that, following the consensus of climate
scientists, global warming induced by the actions of fossil fuel based
industries is a threat to our society and therefore of immediate interest to students represented by the GSA.

2. Student Unions must work to protect standards of living of current members and their future careers.

* Cost of living: We recognise that government initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are welcome, but reject strategies that result in increases in the cost of fuel and the cost of living, such as market-based carbon pricing. Students cannot afford further increases in the cost of living. Instead we call for regulation, and significant direct government investment in renewable energy, paid for through the existing conventional tax system.

* Careers: Commitment from government is needed to implement strong industry policy to develop and direct new industries for renewable energy, particularly in the manufacturing sector. We support the work of the Gippsland Trades and Labor Council (TLC) and Trade Unions representing workers in the Latrobe Valley as an example of a regional development and assistance program to provide new jobs and the training for skills required for a strong and viable manufacturing sector with well paid union jobs into the future, as existing industries based on fossil fuels are wound down.

3. We oppose the construction of all new coal-fired power stations, such as the proposed HRL power station in the Latrobe Valley. Instead we call for state and federal governments to adopt the measures suggested in the Beyond Zero Emissions Plan 2010.
